Millwall manager Gary Rowett is determined to hang onto Danny McNamara while laughing off a lowball bid from Championship rivals Queens Park Rangers, speaking to London News Online.

Then again, the Lions are not exactly in a position of strength.

23-year-old McNamara has less than 12 months left on his contract at The Den after all. And the fact remains that, unless Millwall can tie the young right-back down to a new, long-term deal, they may have little choice but to listen to offers before the summer is out.

QPR, according to reports, recently saw a £300,000 opening bid batted away by their London neighbours. Rangers are unlikely to give up that easily, however, with a Moses Odubajo-shaped hole that must be filled in Michael Beale’s squad.

Will Danny McNamara leave Millwall for Queens Park Rangers?

“I think there has been a couple of offers,” says Rowett. “First and foremost, Danny is our player and we want him to continue to be our player. He has developed really well.

“For me, when you have got a young player who has done really well, you want them to progress and be part of your plans. He’s a player the fans like a lot and we like a lot. You don’t want these sort of players to leave.”

QPR have already signed Jake Clarke-Salter and Tyler Roberts from Chelsea and Leeds United respectively. Kenneth Paal, a left-sided defender Beale tried to sign during his time as an assistant coach north of the border at Ibrox, is another new face at Loftus Road.

QPR will have to stump up a damn sight more than £300,000 if they want to convince Millwall to let McNamara head for the exit however.

“It’s an interesting one really because of the level of the bids… I wouldn’t bid for a QPR young player for that sort of amount, because it’s not even going to be close to any kind of valuation,” Rowett adds.

“At this moment in time, I can’t imagine that changing. We want Danny McNamara to be our player and to develop and move forward with us. It’s a bit of a non-story, if I’m being honest.

“My focus is on Danny signing his contract. He’s been offered a good deal by the club and hopefully he’ll sign that contract soon.”
