Should Ibrox outfit Glasgow Rangers appoint Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes as the manager?
Walter Smith has been quoted as saying by The Scottish Sun that Rangers should appoint Derek McInnes as their new manager.
Rangers are on the hunt for a new manager following the departure of Mark Warburton last month due to a run of poor results in the Scottish Premiership.
According to The Daily Star, the Glasgow giants want to appoint Caixinha as their new boss. The 46-year-old Portuguese is in charge of Al-Gharafa at the moment.
Former Rangers manager Smith believes that the Gers should put Aberdeen boss McInnes in charge of the first team.
McInnes has been the Aberdeen manager since 2013 and has done a wonderful job at the Dandies.
The former Rangers midfielder guided Aberdeen to a second-placed finish in the Scottish Premiership last season.
The Dons are second in the league table at the moment and could once again end up second – ahead of Glasgow giants Rangers, who got promoted from the Scottish Championship at the end of the 2015-16 campaign.
“I’d like someone that was going to bring a level of success to the club,” The Scottish Sun quotes Smith as saying. “I would like to see Derek take the opportunity to do that. I had him as a player, as a manager he has done a good job wherever he is.
“He went down to Bristol and had some problems, has come back to Aberdeen, four years there, and brought stability to the club.
“He’s adapted to what he’s got and I don’t think Rangers would go far wrong in attempting to get Derek.”
Rangers are third in the Scottish Premiership table at the moment with 46 points from 27 matches.
The Gers are six points behind second-placed Aberdeen and as many as 33 points behind leaders Celtic.
