Wolverhampton Wanderers, Newcastle United and Crystal Palace are all being credited with interest in the Argentine goalkeeper.

The Nice goalkeeper Walter Benitez has told The Sun newspaper he is open to a move to England, having been linked with Wolverhampton Wanderers, Newcastle United and Crystal Palace.

The Argentine kept clean sheets in 15 of his 34 Ligue 1 outings in 2018/19 and saved 80 per cent of the shots he faced – making him ‘statistically the best in Europe’, according to The Sun.

Benitez’s form is said to have put him on the radar of Premier League clubs Wolves, Newcastle and Crystal Palace.

And the 26-year-old has conceded that a cross-channel switch could be good for his international prospects.

“I worked very hard and I would love to be at the Copa America but it is the coach’s decision,” he is quoted as having told the newspaper.

“I like the Premier League. It’s a very important league and I would like to play there one day.

“I don’t think that moving to England is the only way for me to be in the Argentinian team because the main thing is my performances.

“But to play in the Premier League would probably be good for my chances in the national team. I have recently signed with Wasserman football agency, so I feel like my career is heading in the right direction.”

However, with Wolves, Newcastle or Crystal Palace seemingly all set for first-choice stoppers, Benitez might be better off seeking alternative English suitors.

The six-foot-three-inch player is about to enter the final year of his contract on the French Riviera, according to Transfermarkt.
