Taking a closer look at the Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur players’ latest performances.
Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur played out a 1-1 draw at the Emirates Stadium of Sunday in a thoroughly entertaining match.
North London derbies rarely disappoint and while there were only two goals on this occasion – scored by Harry Kane and Kieran Gibbs – it was a great spectacle.
With young Spaniard Hector Bellerin out injured Arsenal started French international Mathieu Debuchy at right-back, while Tottenham played Kyle Walker in that position as has been the case for the vast majority of the season. So how did the two compare?
| Passing Accuracy | Dribbles | Tackles Won | Effective Clearances | Duels Won | Interceptions Won | Key Passes | Accurate Crosses | Mins Played | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mathieu Debuchy | 68% | 1 | 9 | 0 | 11 | 2 | 0 | 0 | 77 |
| Kyle Walker | 64% | 3 | 1 | 5 | 7 | 2 | 1 | 0 | 90 |
As you can see above, the Arsenal player had the slightly better passing accuracy – 68 per cent compared with Walker’s 64 per cent – while Debuchy also won a very impressive nine tackles.
In contrast the Tottenham player won just one tackle all game but he came out on top in terms of dribbles, effective clearances and key passes.
Debuchy may have been playing only his second league game of the season but he put himself about – even if he did not have the best of times against Tottenham’s wide players – and he won 11 duels before he was substituted in the 77th minute.
In contrast Walker has been an ever-present in the league for Tottenham this season but when it came to some key areas he was outshone by the Arsenal player, even if both have to work on their crossing accuracy in the months ahead.
