The young right-back will be hoping to feature in Europe for Tottenham Hotspur this week.
Despite his impressive performance against Newcastle United on the opening weekend of the season, Tottenham Hotspur youngster Kyle Walker-Peters has barely been seen since, featuring for eight minutes against Huddersfield as well as getting a run-out in the EFL Cup against Barnsley.
However, Wednesday’s Champions League game against APOEL Nicosia could be the ideal chance for the 20-year-old to prove there are more than two right-back options at Spurs right now.
With Kieran Trippier and Serge Aurier competing for a starting spot, it is easy for a young prospect to slip off the radar, but Walker-Peters has continued to train with the senior side and Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino will know when he is ready to stake another claim of his own.
That could well come in this week’s dead rubber, with Tottenham already securing top spot in their Champions League group, enabling Pochettino to give some of the club’s fringe players and young prospects the chance to shine.
You can rest assured that if he does start, Walker-Peters would set about showing just how capable he is, even if the competition for places in North London right now makes a short-term breakthrough unlikely.
Given his ability to play on either flank, and his impressive performances earlier in the campaign, Walker-Peters could still have an important role to play in the second half of the campaign and, even if Tottenham opt to send him out on loan, a fine showing this week will also help attract more potential suitors ahead of January.
