Harry Redknapp has picked Swansea City’s Kyle Naughton in his team of the week; how does he compare to former teammate Kyle Walker?

Former Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp has named his Premier League Team of the Week, with two players from the North London side selected.

Redknapp’s team, published in The Telegraph, included hat-trick hero Harry Kane and playmaker Christian Eriksen.

BBC pundit Garth Crooks had picked right-back Kyle Walker in his selection, but Redknapp’s included another right-back, Swansea City’s Kyle Naughton instead.

Naughton was like Walker signed by Redknapp during his time at Tottenham, but failed to dislodge the England international from his position, and left in search of first team football.

He helped Swansea to an important 2-1 away victory over Aston Villa, yet once again his performance was outgunned by Tottenham’s Walker, statistically speaking.

Naughton crucially provided the pass for Andre Ayew’s winning goal – but it was just one of 11 successful crosses he had attempted during the match.

Through the season so far he has been better going forward than Tottenham’s Kyle Walker, creating four more chances despite playing two fewer games.

When it comes to defensive aspects of his game, winning tackles and making interceptions, he comes off a clear second best to the player he was once understudy for.

Naughton is enjoying a strong spell in his career at Swansea, and making an impact going forwards will do wonders for his confidence.

Yet there is certainly a case to be stated that he needs to be more aggressive defensively and improve his reading of the game if he is to better or reach the level of Walker, even if Redknapp viewed his performance at the weekend as already superior.
