There has been a renewed focus on Manchester United’s youth development since Ineos took charge of the football side of the club.
United’s reputation for developing top players is well known. The list of names coming through their ranks over the years speaks for itself, from legends like George Best to stars such as Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, and David Beckham.
Since Sir Jim Ratcliffe became co-owner, there have been several signings aimed at strengthening the youth setup, including Chido Obi and Sekou Kone. Everyone involved hopes that these players can develop into first-team regulars under Ruben Amorim’s staff.
Enzo Kana-Biyik was another recent addition, joining from Le Havre before heading out on loan to Lausanne in Switzerland.
This season, United are expected to keep searching for new talent, with scouts likely to be kept busy as they look for more young players who could fit into their long-term plans.
Man Utd keeping tabs on Cardiff City’s youngster Dylan Lawlor

Jason Wilcox, United’s director of football, has an eye for rising talent and it has played a part in the club’s shift towards younger signings.
This summer, Matheus Cunha was the oldest player to join United at 26, signalling Ineos’ preference for players who still have their best years ahead of them.
A shift in recruitment strategy has occurred at Old Trafford since Sir Jim Ratcliffe acquired a minority stake in the club. Previously, the team were happy to sign players like Casemiro and Christian Eriksen, even though their prime playing years were behind them.
Regarding that, United In Focus has learned that United have been following Cardiff youngster Dylan Lawlor for several years, watching his progress through the Wales youth system.
The defender recently broke into Cardiff’s first team and earned his first cap for Wales this year. Despite having fewer than a dozen senior appearances to his name, he was trusted by national team manager Craig Bellamy to start a vital World Cup qualifier against Kazakhstan.
Lawlor helped Wales keep a clean sheet in the 1-0 win.
In recognition of his contributions as a first-team player, Cardiff offered him a new contract, which he signed in August.
United in Focus has also confirmed that United maintain strong relations with Cardiff and know their academy setup well. They even brought Gabriele Biancheri over to Old Trafford from Cardiff back in 2023.
“United are not the only major club who are aware of Lawlor, but few have been on his trail as long as they have – I am told he has been on their radar for some time, and they are not actually surprised by his progress”, transfer expert Graeme Bailey revealed.
“Lawlor, though, is not in a hurry to leave Cardiff and United and his suitors are aware of that, but he is one to keep an eye on. He really is a top young talent, potentially a special one.”
What Craig Bellamy had to say about Lawlor
Just six days after putting pen to paper on a new three-year contract with Cardiff, Lawlor was called up to the Wales squad for their trip to Astana.
He stepped in for Joe Rodon and impressed Wales coach Craig Bellamy, who did not hold back in his praise afterwards.
Speaking to The Independent, Bellamy said: “Beyond impressed. What a player.
“He was so just so impressive, and we needed him to be because we were fully aware of the pull-outs.
“Joe Rodon was gone and there’s times you look and think, ‘how are we going to cope without Joe because he’s such an immense player for us?’
“This helps. We have the sort of player underneath him now, (who is) going to rival everyone.
“He’s a big plus to come out of this, we gained a big player from this.”
