Arsenal are showing an interest in Stuttgart defender Waldemar Anton but face competition from both Aston Villa and West Ham United.

The Gunners beat Luton Town 4-3 on Tuesday night but have received another defensive injury blow.

Mikel Arteta has confirmed that Takehiro Tomiyasu is set for a spell on the sidelines with a calf injury.

Jurrien Timber is already out for the majority of the season with a major knee injury and Arsenal may need more defensive depth in January.

It’s stated Aston Villa and West Ham United are also interested in signing Anton but there are admirers in Germany too.

Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen are keeping tabs on Anton after Stuttgart’s superb start to the season.

Arsenal have been offered the chance to sign Stuttgart striker Serhou Guirassy after his blistering start to the campaign.

However, teammate Anton may be the man Arsenal want with Arteta and co considering another centre back addition.

Who is Stuttgart defender Anton?

Anton was born in Uzbekistan to parents of German and Russian descent.

After starting out with Hanover-based Muhlenberger SV, Anton joined the Hannover 96 youth ranks at the age of just 11.

Anton rose up in the ranks, becoming a first-team player after just 11 appearances for the Hannover 96 II side.

The 6ft 2in defender turned out nearly 150 times for Hannover before heading to Stuttgart in 2020.

A former Germany Under-21 International, Anton has now racked up 119 appearances for Stuttgart.

Anton is a solid defender with ability on the ball when playing out from the back, and he has even played as a defensive midfielder or right back.

Hailed as a ‘real leader’ by boss Sebastian Hoeness, Anton has really developed well at Stuttgart and could end up in the Premier League.

Anton would add depth to the Arsenal ranks rather than becoming a star, but he likely wouldn’t break the bank as he approaches the final 18 months of his contract.
