Everton have been linked with the Arsenal man but even with him they would need another out-and-out striker.
According to the Daily Mail, Everton want to bring Theo Walcott to Goodison Park in January and have asked the Gunners if they would be willing to do a deal.
The Toffees are on the look-out for a replacement for Romelu Lukaku, with goals hard to come by under former manager Ronald Koeman. But even if Everton do sign the England international, they would still need another out-and-out striker to truly replace the departed Belgian.
Walcott is a fine option up front when fit and firing, but he will never be the 20-goal a season man Everton really need, and they should look to target both the 28-year-old and a target-man with whom he could form a fine partnership.
Walcott’s pace and movement mean he could be a fine addition to Everton’s squad, but he would not be enough on his own.
The alleged Everton target has scored 107 goals in 393 games for Arsenal, averaging just over one in four and, while that is an impressive record for a player who has featured most often on the wing, it shows that he is not capable of replacing Lukaku out right.
Walcott’s signing could still be a coup for Everton, but if their new manager Sam Allardyce has a plan to partner him with another January addition, the good times could soon return to the blue half of Merseyside.
