The winger provided an assist on his Everton debut.
Having been on the periphery of proceedings at his former club Arsenal, Theo Walcott was especially determined to make an impact on his Everton debut against West Bromwich Albion at the weekend.
The winger succeeded in that regard as he provided an assist for Oumar Niasse in the 1-1 draw at Goodison Park, while he had a volley saved by Ben Foster late on.
Walcott’s debut didn’t go completely smoothly as he found it difficult to make a major impact in the first half, frequently making runs inside only for his team-mates to not pick him out.
It is clear that Walcott requires a period of adjustment to get used to Everton’s playing style and become more familiar with his team-mates.
However, given his speed and directness, the 28-year-old should be able to thrive at Everton in the longterm.
Walcott’s main aim is to force his way back into the England squad and he has much work to do in order to convince Gareth Southgate that he should travel to the World Cup this summer.
Playing regularly, though, will increase Walcott’s confidence and the signs suggest that he can be a success at Everton once he is fully settled.
