Tottenham fans are shocked that Moussa Sissoko is already the captain of Watford after the arrival of Claudio Ranieri.
Sissoko left Spurs in the summer and made the short trip across to newly-promoted Watford.
It’s not even Christmas yet and the Hornets have already sacked a manager and his replacement has handed the armband to Sissoko.
It has left many Spurs fans surprised because he wasn’t known to have leadership qualities during his time in North London.
Hugo Lloris has been the one who has led Spurs out on the field, with Harry Kane, albeit he’s not vocal, seen as another player that others look up to.
But on Saturday, with Ranieri taking charge of his first game against Liverpool, he saw something in Sissoko that pushed him towards handing him the captaincy.
Both for the player and the manager it was quite a disastrous start because Watford were thrashed 5-0 by Jurgen Klopp’s men.
From Sissoko’s perspective, even though his team were all over the shop and ran ragged by the likes of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mo Salah, the captain himself actually produced a strong performance.
But it’s the team display that matters the most, as Watford are slowly slipping down the Premier League table.
Sissoko will have to use all his experience and hard-hitting qualities to pick his teammates up from the floor because, at this rate, they are going straight back down with Norwich.
Here is a selection of Spurs fans reacting to Sissoko being made captain after eight games at Watford:
