The Tunisian is currently spending the season away from Sunderland on loan with Rennes.

Wahbi Khazri sat down for an exclusive interview with French media outlet L’Equipe, and insisted that he does not regret his failed move to the Black Cats in January 2016.

The 26-year-old joined Rennes on a season long loan at the start of the season, and has really impressed in France, scoring five goals in nine Ligue 1 outings for his club this far.

The kind of form he has showcased this term is a far cry from what he produced during his time with Sunderland, but in all fairness to him he was playing in arguably one of the worst ever sides to grace the Premier League.

The talented forward really struggled on Wearside, after making his £9 million move from Bordeaux, but he has instantly looked more comfortable playing back in France this season.

Khazri spoke to L’Equipe, and discussed his time at the Stadium of Light:

“Even if I didn’t play last season, I don’t regret it because I had a lot of fun in training. It made me progress mentally, I hardened myself because I was frustrated at the weekend not to play.“But I continued working for me, to have fun for me.”

The Tunisian’s future remains unclear, but with Sunderland’s obvious financial problems, and his fine form in France, it would be no surprise to see him make a permanent switch back to Ligue 1 in either January or the following summer.
