Leeds have little chance of attracting David Wagner.
Huddersfield Town manager David Wagner
The Yorkshire Evening Post report Leeds United owner Andrea Radrizzani wanted Huddersfield Town boss David Wagner as head coach next season.
And while the Terriers’ promotion has meant Leeds will not approach Wagner as there is zero chance of him choosing to step down a division – they would have faced certain rejection anyway.
Wagner has been fiercely loyal to Huddersfield during his tenure, and even turned down an approach from German top flight side Wolfsburg last season.
The BBC reported that Wagner responded, stating: “They have obviously seen the way we are going at Huddersfield Town and the journey we have been on together over the last 12 months.
“It’s important for me to clarify that my focus is on moving forward at Huddersfield Town.”

Huddersfield chairman Dean Hoyle also insisted Wagner was going nowhere, stating: “Huddersfield Town may not be a Bundesliga club or one that plays in European competition, but make no mistake – we are a serious, proud, ambitious club with a rich history.
“We are not to be toyed with or dismissed out of hand. We have values and always conduct ourselves in the right manner; something that cannot be said for other clubs.”
Hoyle likely would have refused to listen to Leeds United’s approach, and left Radrizzani facing certain rejection.
If Town could hold off Wolfsburg, then it is highly unlikely he would have swapped clubs to remain in the same division.
Wagner has everybody at Huddersfield buying into his project, and he isn’t the type to walk away after a setback.
Unfortunately the same could not be said of former Leeds boss Garry Monk.
