Nottingham Forest manager wants players to focus only on themselves.
Nottingham Forest’s Ben Osborn celebrates their first goal
After a narrow defeat to Wolves in midweek, Nottingham Forest’s players were naturally feeling nervous.
Midfielder Ben Osborn told the club website that after the game that they quickly checked on other Championship scorelines, given their situation at the bottom end of the table.
Forest are in 20th place, just two points above the relegation zone.
They had a let off in midweek when rivals Blackburn and Bristol City both lost, but Osborn admits that new manager Mark Warburton told the team off, insisting they must forget what is going on elsewhere.
Nottingham Forest manager Mark Warburton
He said: “Naturally after a game you want to look at the other results. We did that on Tuesday then the gaffer said that we have just got to concentrate on ourselves.
“We can’t affect anywhere else so we don’t need to put added pressure on ourselves. We need to play our football, play our way out of it, be brave on the ball and looking at other results will just hinder that.
“We are just going to focus solely on ourselves. I know it is what everyone says but we need to take it game-by-game and concentrate on ourselves.”
Shutting themselves off is easier said than done, especially in the modern game with players active and regularly checking social media.
Warburton is of course not suggesting they ignore their position completely, but actively searching for results right after a game shows nervousness, and worry among the team.
The new manager is still looking for his first win since taking charge, with two draws and a loss on the board so far.
