Aston Villa are a club with a rich history of bringing impressive youngsters through into the first team.
General view of Villa Park
It’s been a tough season for Aston Villa supporters. After a torrid final campaign in the Premier League, many fans were expecting the side to at least be fighting for promotion this season. However, after troubles under both Robert Di Matteo and Steve Bruce, the Villans have been closer to fighting relegation than promotion, and many fans just want this season to come to an end.
But it hasn’t all been doom or gloom. Since the turn of the year, Aston Villa have steadily begun to improve, much to the thanks of some of their impressive new signings. With a number of youngster’s also set to prove their worth at Villa Park, next season could well be a much more successful one.
So which young players should Aston Villa fans be getting the most excited about? A number have shown signs of promise this season, but who has been the standout?
One young player who has really caught the imagination of Villa supporters is forward Andre Green. Born in Solihull, Andre Green joined Aston Villa’s youth academy in 2006, and after ten years of working hard to get himself noticed, the young attacker’s time finally appears to have come under Steve Bruce. After making his debut last season during a 2-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, Andre Green became the fifth youngest player to ever represent Aston Villa, joining a list of prestigious names that includes Jimmy Brown and Gareth Barry.

Able to play as a striker, a No.10 or even as a wide man as part of a 4-2-3-1, the attacker has really come on under Steve Bruce, and could well play a big part in Villa’s push for promotion next season. His pace has been terrifying defenders this season, and his control of the ball speaks more of a player who Championship experience, than a youth player breaking into the first team.
His success isn’t just a good thing for Aston Villa though! Throughout his youth career, the forward has represented England at U16, U17, U18 and U19 level. Now, after picking up 13 appearances this season, Andre Green appears to have forced himself into the forefront of Steve Bruce’s plan, and certainly looks like a bright player for the future.
