Vurnon Anita recently joined Leeds United after leaving Newcastle United at the end of last season.

Leeds United summer signing Vurnon Anita has suggested to BBC Radio Leeds that he is good enough to play in the Premier League.

Anita joined Championship club Leeds in the summer transfer window after leaving Newcastle United at the end of last season.

The 28-year-old, who can play as a full-back or as a defensive midfielder, helped Newcastle get promoted from the Championship to the Premier League at the end of the 2016-17 campaign.

The Dutchman had been on the books of the Magpies since 2012 and knows English football inside out, having played in the Premier League as well as in the Championship.

Anita, who has earned four caps for the Netherlands national football team so far in his career, is confident that he is good enough to play in the Premier League.

The former Ajax star told BBC Radio Leeds when asked if he could still play in the Premier League if he were to get promoted with Leeds this season: “Of course, of course, why not? That’s the goal, of course.

“We are playing in pre-season and we are trying to build a level to compete in the league. Our main goal, of course, is to get promoted.”

Leeds are one of the biggest clubs in England and have a strong following, and they will be aiming to finish in the top six of the Championship next season.

The West Yorkshire outfit narrowly missed out on a place in the playoffs during the 2016-17 campaign.
