Vurnon Anita’s current contract at Newcastle United is set to expire at the end of the season.
Newcastle United defender Vurnon Anita has told the Chronicle that he would like to stay at St. James’ Park next season, but he is open to offers.
Anita’s current contract at Newcastle is set to expire at the end of the season, and he is yet to be offered new terms.
The Magpies are still yet to decide on Anita’s future, and the Dutch defender has hinted that nothing is sorted yet.
“Of course, but it’s not up to me,” Anita said, when asked if he would like to stay at Newcastle.
“I am open to everything. I will see what happens.
“I have to wait and see, it is up to the club. We have to see what the club decides.”
Anita has made 31 appearances for Newcastle this season, and although he has not been a permanent starter he has been a valuable squad member for the Tynesiders.
Whether Benitez will now feel that Anita has served his purpose at Newcastle remains to be seen, though.
The Magpies are known to be looking to invest heavily in their squad as they look to compete back in the Premier League.
If Anita does leave Newcastle this summer, it will bring to an end a five year stay with the Magpies, where he has made 148 appearances.
