Leeds United host Nottingham Forest at Elland Road in the Championship tonight, but where are the points going?
Leeds United manager Garry Monk
Leeds United will be hoping to put their weekend defeat against Barnsley behind them when they take on Nottingham Forest at Elland Road on Wednesday night. But can Garry Monk’s men get their promotion push back on track against their managerless opponents? And who will score that first goal?
The Whites had been one of the Championship’s form teams going into their Yorkshire derby with the Tykes, but were beaten 3-2 at Oakwell in a game where it was arguably Paul Heckingbottom’s side that looked like the team that was on a periphery of an automatic-promotion push.
Meanwhile, Forest – who parted company with Philippe Montanier earlier this month – lifted some of the gloom surrounding the City Ground with a 1-0 win over Bristol City in their most recent outing.
So, will Leeds get back on track or is Forest’s first victory in eight league games going to become the start of a much better run for the club that sees them move well away from the division’s bottom three? Have your say now…
Despite Nottingham Forest’s disappointing position in the table, there is no question that they know how to find the back of the net.
No team in the bottom-half has scored more often than them this term, and, interestingly, they have scored one more goal than Leeds, who currently sit 14 places higher in fifth.
But who are you backing to score the first goal? With both teams tending to play a lone striker, the obvious contenders are Chris Wood and Britt Assombalonga – who boast 22 goals between them, with the former scoring 16 – but will either be the one to break the deadlock at Elland Road?
