Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly offered Michel Vorm to Leeds United.
Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga turned in a superb performance against Chelsea on Tuesday night, just as rumours emerged about another Spurs stopper.
The Argentinian was a fairly unheralded signing by Mauricio Pochettino, as Spurs raided Southampton for him in the summer of 2017 as a third-choice goalkeeper.
Going into this season, the giant goalkeeper has played just one competitive game for Spurs, but has been showing real promise so far this season.
Whilst Gazzaniga was turning in a fine performance, the Yorkshire Evening Post reported that Tottenham had offered Michel Vorm to Leeds United to help their goalkeeping issues.
Pochettino and Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa are close from their time together at Newell’s Old Boys and Espanyol as well as with Argentina, so a favour wouldn’t have been a huge shock.
But Pochettino’s willingness to send Vorm out confirms one thing once and for all; he has clearly decided that Gazzaniga has definitely overtaken Vorm in Tottenham’s goalkeeping pecking order.
This isn’t a sudden change, rather something which has been becoming apparent this season, but Gazzaniga’s display against Chelsea coupled with Vorm being available really confirms it without any shred of doubt.
The fact that Leeds snubbed Vorm is another point to note, as if an admittedly fantastic Championship club don’t even want him right now, then it’s unlikely that Tottenham can rely on him as a second choice.
Vorm, 35, is out of contract at the end of the season and is seemingly set to leave Spurs on a free transfer this coming summer, given that he is now clearly third choice with no appearances since October.
