Michel Vorm has spoken highly about the ‘amazing’ Tottenham goalkeeper, Hugo Lloris, as he told Sky Sports.

The Dutchman used to sit behind Lloris in Tottenham’s goalkeeping pecking order.

But like many before, he never managed to dethrone the World Cup winner, who has been at Spurs since 2012 when they paid £12 million for his services (BBC Sport).

It’s not easy being a back-up keeper, especially when you know the guy in front of you is going to play near-on every game.

And that’s the scenario Vorm found himself in when he was in North London.

But despite it being one of the ‘hardest things’, Vorm still spoke highly about the man currently in between Tottenham’s sticks.

“If you look at Lloris over the last seasons, he has done amazing,” said Vorm. “You are also professional enough to make sure you are ready if they need you.

“But also, that’s probably one of the hardest things. A goalkeeper also needs rhythm. We want to play week in and week out.

“But you are also professional and you need to make sure, that if you are being called up, then you need to be ready and that’s definitely not easy.

“That’s why it’s nice to see when you make a difference for a team, like on Wednesday night, and you go through to the next round, so I am very happy for him.”

Lloris is currently Tottenham’s longest-serving player and one of very few who now remain from the Mauricio Pochettino era.

Slowly but surely, that team is being ripped apart and it’s a crying shame because what is being built now isn’t exactly working wonders.

In recent years, the likes of Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen, Mousa Dembele, Kieran Trippier, Erik Lamela, Moussa Sissoko, Danny Rose and Victor Wanyama have all departed.

And now very few remain from that Pochettino era that should have, but didn’t, lift any silverware.
