Everton’s hopes of winning the Carabao Cup are over, after they lost on penalties to Southampton following a 1-1 draw at Goodison Park on Tuesday night.

The Toffees saw Richarlison and Theo Walcott fail from the penalty spot to send Southampton into the next round, as they failed to build on Saturday’s 3-0 home win over Fulham.

Whilst Everton were left to crash out of the Carabao Cup, one of their loaned-out talents was enjoying the night of his life in winger Nikola Vlasic.

Vlasic is spending the season out on loan with Russian side CSKA Moscow, and he scored after just 65 seconds to give his team a stunning 1-0 home win over Real Madrid last night.

Croatian ace Vlasic is thriving with CSKA, as he not only scored but turned in a superb, man of the match performance throughout, and now has three goals and two assists in just eight games for CSKA.

Everton fans may look at the defeat to Southampton and Vlasic’s display coming on the same night as being ‘classic Everton’, but it’s becoming increasingly difficult to understand Silva’s decision to send Vlasic away from Goodison Park.

The 20-year-old has been sensational for CSKA, yet Silva sent him out on loan having barely given him a chance to shine in this new Everton era, with Vlasic recently telling Novilist in Croatia that Silva quickly told him he wouldn’t be playing first-team football for Everton.

Vlasic could have provided a real spark for Everton this season, and whilst giving minutes to him would have pushed Kieran Dowell or Ademola Lookman down the pecking order, the Croatian is starring in Europe’s top competition and turning in sensational displays against Real Madrid, which suggests he surely would have had a part to play for Everton this term – and fans must hope that Silva does bring Vlasic back into his squad when he returns from Russia in 2019.
