The former Glasgow Rangers man remains a popular figure at Ibrox, but perhaps not at Celtic.
Former Rangers winger Vladimir Weiss has reminded a Celtic fan that his club tried to sign him once upon a time.
The Slovakia international made headlines on Monday for claiming that the Hoops had little to no chance of qualifying from their Champions League group, which includes Barcelona, Manchester City and Borussia Monchengladbach.
Consequently, the 26-year-old’s claims, albeit understandable, were not welcomed by Celtic supporters; one of whom contacted the man himself on Twitter with quite an honest, semi-explicit message.
But Weiss politely reminded the man in question that he could have been a Celtic player at one stage if he wanted to.
He joined Rangers on loan from Manchester City in 2010, but The Record reported at the time that he snubbed a switch to Parkhead in favour of their Old Firm rivals.
Weiss – now with Qatari side Al-Gharafa – left Rangers when his loan agreement ended, but he remains a hugely popular figure among fans of the Ibrox club; largely because he bought into the culture during his time on the blue half of the Old Firm divide and remains a supporter of the club.
When another Hoops fan goaded him about his decision to reject the club, Weiss claimed that his lucrative salary in the Middle East meant that he could buy Celtic.
