According to the Independent, West Ham have entered the race to sign Norwich right-back Max Aarons, who’s also wanted by Everton.

The report claims that Norwich will demand at least £30 million for the England Under-21 international.

West Ham’s London rivals Tottenham also hold a long-term interest in Aarons, while Barcelona and Bayern Munich have tried to sign him.

In that respect, the Irons have plenty of competition for Aarons.

However, if David Moyes does bring the 21-year-old to the London Stadium, one man will presumably have a few questions – Vladimír Coufal.

The 28-year-old only just arrived at West Ham back in October, signing a three-year contract in a deal worth £5.4 million.

Coufal has done superbly at right-back this season, starting 28 Premier League games in which he’s recorded an impressive five assists.

However, he’ll surely be banging Moyes’ door down at Rush Green, armed with plenty of questions, if Aarons arrives.

The first of which would probably be: ‘Are you replacing me?’

Unless Aarons is loaned back to Norwich, it would seem that way.

The London-born right-back is seven years younger than Coufal, and you don’t spend £30 million on a player to deputise for someone else.

The writing could be on the wall for West Ham’s No.5…
