Portuguese manager Vitor Pereira has told the Evening Times that he is convinced Rangers summer signing Bruno Alves will not only prove to be an excellent signing for the Gers, but will also prove to be one of the best players in the Scottish Premiership during the coming campaign.

Alves became the Light Blues’ first signing of the summer, signing a two-year deal at Ibrox after leaving Cagliari. And while the 35-year-old may be coming towards the end of his career, his experience has left many Gers fans delighted about his arrival.

And it appears that they are going to be even happier when they hear Pereira’s comments on the defender. The 48-year-old – who managed Alves while in charge of Turkish side Fenerbahce and was linked with the Gers job back in 2015 (via Evening Times) – has insisted that the defender will prove to be a hit while at Ibrox.

“Bruno Alves was my player at Fenerbahce and he is a top, top player,” Pereira told the Evening Times.

“He is a very good professional, and I already know he will be one of the best players in the Rangers team for sure – and in the Scottish league. I am convinced about this. He is in really good shape, and he is such a good professional that I feel that he can play even more than two or three years no problem.”

With Pedro Caixinha conducting a major overhaul of his squad already – Rangers have already signed six players, and have let three go – having players within the ranks who he can rely upon to remain consistent during this period of transition could be crucial to their chances of success during the coming season.

And while Alves is in unfamiliar surroundings, his experience and reliability will surely make him a crucial weapon for Caixinha as he can take his place in the spine of the side and be the kind of leader that will help give the team the best chance of putting their difficult first year back in the Scottish Premiership behind them.
