Vito Mannone boasts Reading could have beaten Leeds by ‘two or three’

Reading beat Leeds 1-0 at the weekend.

Reading goalkeeper Vito Mannone has told the club’s official website that they could have beaten Leeds United by a higher margin.

The Royals secured a much needed 1-0 win over Leeds at Elland Road on Saturday, with the Italian saving a last minute penalty to deny Leeds a draw.

This left Leeds aggrieved they could not manage a draw, but Mannone believes Reading should have won comfortably anyway.

Mannone said: “Leeds have an energetic team and I thought we frustrated them for most of the game. When we had the ball we played well and created chances.

“If we had taken the chances we could have been two or three up, but their goalkeeper made some good saves.

“In general, we didn’t deserve to come out with just one point. Thankfully we stood up until the end and kept working together.”

Leeds had switched goalkeepers themselves, dropping Felix Wiedwald for veteran Andy Lonergan after the German’s slide in form before the international break.

He was beaten by former Whites loanee Mo Barrow for the winning goal.

Reading’s win still sees them only in 20th place in the table, while Leeds slip down slightly to sixth place, but still well positioned to stay in the promotion mix.
