Jamaal Lascelles continues to prove himself at Newcastle United.
Back in 2014 Newcastle United swooped on Nottingham Forest to sign Jamaal Lascelles and Karl Darlow.
While Darlow has had his moments and is currently warming the sidelines, Lascelles is proving to be every bit the potential superstar Newcastle hoped he might be.
Lascelles has earned the captaincy at Newcastle and been a regular in Rafa Benitez’s side.
He scored a winner at the weekend as Newcastle beat Stoke, proving his importance to the side and ability to become a key player at Premier League level.
Newcastle shrewdly sent Lascelles back on loan to Forest for the first season, but knew when they agreed the deal they were buying a player with potential, but one who was unproven – as he was not even a regular at the City Ground.
The club’s vision has paid off, and they needed one of their buys to strike the jackpot after a mixed spell in the market in recent years.
The Chronicle report Newcastle are set to offer Lascelles a new contract as a reward for his performances, and so his weekend goal was perfectly timed.
But as much as rewarding Lascelles, they would be patting themselves on the back, and celebrating a fantastic piece of transfer business which could go on to look even better in years to come.
