Virgil van Dijk has stated that Aston Villa have ‘great’ away fans after Liverpool’s 1-0 win against the Midlands side at Anfield on Saturday, as he told Footy with Uti.
The Liverpool defender stated that Villa are a ‘very good side’, as he praised their away support for helping their players ‘throughout the game’ from the weekend.
It was the home fans at Anfield who were giving club legend Steven Gerrard a warm welcome upon his return to Merseyside.
But he would have left frustrated and annoyed that his team weren’t able to secure, at the very least, a point against his former club.
Van Dijk played a big part in ensuring Villa’s in-form forward line weren’t able to cause problems to his team, as he also shared his thoughts on the Premier League title race.
“That’s something we shouldn’t talk about (on title-race),” said Van Dijk. “We focus on the game ahead of us.
“This was a tough game against Villa. It was a very good side. Great away fans who helped them throughout the game.
“We got the three points and that’s all that matters to us. The season is so long and we have so many games to go, so many twists and turns are possible.
“We have to be lucky with no injuries and be consistent. So far, I think the three teams are doing it quite well. But, as I said, the season is long.”

It’s another away trip for Villa, this time a long journey to Norwich City and Carrow Road on Tuesday night.
From one reunion to another tomorrow night, this time Dean Smith pitting his wits against the man that replaced him in the Villa Park dugout.
Just like the Liverpool fans did towards Gerrard, there is no doubt that Smith will get a warm reception from the Villa faithful.
But during those 90 minutes, he will ensure that it’s his Norwich side walking away with a win as they battle it out at the bottom of the Premier League table.
