Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk has hailed Brendan Rodgers and Celtic.

Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk has told the Daily Mail that he feels Celtic have been ‘unbelievable’ under Brendan Rodgers’ stewardship.
Rodgers has still yet to lose a single domestic match since taking charge of Celtic in the summer of 2016, with the former Liverpool boss rebuilding his reputation in Glasgow.
Celtic’s 4-0 win at St Johnstone last week means they have now gone 63 domestic games without defeat, breaking their own British domestic record in the process.
Many have tried to discount Celtic’s achievement by citing the quality of other teams in Scotland, but it’s difficult to string together unbeaten runs in any league, never mind one that stretches over 60 games.
Virgil van Dijk in action for Celtic
With a Europa League place potentially in Celtic’s hands as a result of their Champions League campaign, the Bhoys are continuing to progress under Rodgers – and one former player is delighted to see it.
Defender Virgil van Dijk starred for Celtic following a 2013 move from Groningen, smashing 15 goals in 115 games as a centre back to earn a 2015 switch to Southampton, where he has become one of Europe’s top defenders.
Tonight, Van Dijk will be a part of the Netherlands squad taking on Scotland at Pittodrie, and his return to Scotland has enabled him to tell the Daily Mail that he thinks Celtic have been ‘unbelievable’ under Rodgers, summing up their remarkable run.

Van Dijk added that he still checks Celtic’s results, as his love for the club will never go away, and he wants the Bhoys to keep their run going, admitting that it’s great to be back in Scotland with the Dutch national team.
“They have been unbelievable,” said Van Dijk. “They have done brilliantly and I always look out for Celtic’s results. When you play for Celtic, your love for the club never goes away. They have made great strides under Brendan Rodgers. They made history last week and that was great to see. It shows how strong they are and, hopefully, they can keep going.”
“They have had some good games against some top teams. It is hard for them, but it is great to see them back in the Champions League. The club and the fans deserve to be at that stage. It is nice to be back in Scotland again. I had some great times here with Celtic. I have also scored some big goals for Celtic at Pittodrie, so it is also good to come back to Aberdeen, especially with the Dutch national team,” he added.
