Speaking to Liverpool’s official club website, Virgil van Dijk has been full of praise for Luis Diaz after his Premier League debut.

The Colombian is the newest addition to the Reds’ squad, and he made his first league appearance on Thursday evening against Leicester City.

Excitement was palpable as Diaz stepped onto the pitch in the Premier League for the first time, and it’s fair to say he lived up to some expectations.

Yes, he didn’t score, but he put in an electric performance, running with the ball brilliantly and being a constant threat.

One man who was impressed by Diaz was Virgil van Dijk.

What’s been said?

Van Dijk labelled Diaz ‘fantastic’ after his Liverpool debut.

“The competition up front is interesting with Sadio coming back now, Luis as well had a fantastic debut, Mo, obviously you don’t need to say too much about him, Taki, Bobby – the manager has a tough job on his hands,” Van Dijk said.

“But it’s only a good thing because we need everyone. We play every three days and everyone has to feel involved and responsible as well. I think that’s the case so let’s just go for it, enjoy it and help each other.”

Exciting

Van Dijk isn’t wrong about Diaz, he was brilliant on his Premier League debut, and there’s plenty to be excited about.

The South American is still very much settling into life in England, but he’s already showing how much of an asset he can be for Liverpool.

If you’ve impressed van Dijk on your debut, then you must have done something right.
