Liverpool beat Crystal Palace 2-0 at Selhurst Park on Monday night.
Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has told Sky Sports that new goalkeeper Alisson showed his composure and presence during the 1-0 win over Crystal Palace on Monday night.
The Reds opened their season with a 4-0 thrashing of West Ham United, but faced a tricky trip to London on Monday night as they took on Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
It promised to be a real banana skin for Liverpool, but the Reds took the lead in the first half as James Milner scored from the penalty spot after Mohamed Salah was tripped inside the penalty area.
Palace’s promising full back Aaron Wan-Bissaka was sent off in the second half for bringing down Salah on his route to goal, before the Egyptian set up Sadio Mane on the counter-attack to seal a 2-0 win, rounding Wayne Hennessey before tapping into the net.
Liverpool have made it two wins from two games with two clean sheets, and two of Jurgen Klopp’s major investments are helping the Reds form a solid defence this season.
Goalkeeper Alisson made one superb save from a Luka Milivojevic free kick and was commanding throughout, easing the pressure on his Liverpool defence – even if he looked to be beaten by Andros Townsend’s long-range strike, which cannoned off the bar.
The Brazilian, who joined Liverpool from Roma this summer in a world-record deal for a goalkeeper, and Virgil van Dijk – the other expensive cog in the Liverpool back line – has heaped praise on Alisson.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Van Dijk praised Alisson for a composed display, showing great presence at the back, adding that he is very happy to be playing with the 25-year-old.
“It’s fantastic, you see how composed he is, the presence he has,” said Van Dijk. “He is a fantastic goalkeeper and we are all very happy to have him in the team. He’s a good character as well, and I’m very happy with him,” he added.
