Speaking on Liverpool’s YouTube channel, Virgil van Dijk has named former Everton manager Ronald Koeman as his dream centre-back partner from history.

Van Dijk will undoubtedly go down as one of the best centre-halves of all time, and he’s been asked which player from history he’d most like to partner him at the back.

Van Dijk could have chosen from the likes of Paolo Maldini, Franco Baresi or even someone like Rio Ferdinand, but he went for his former Netherlands manager, Koeman.

What’s van Dijk said?

The Dutchman named Koeman as his dream partner.

“I would say Ronald Koeman. Yeah, more because obviously he’s been quite an important figure of my career so far, and he won the Euros with Holland in 1988, so I would say him,” van Dijk said.

Imagine

Of course, van Dijk and Koeman are both from different eras, but could you imagine how good this centre-back partnership would be.

We’ve seen Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson become Liverpool’s key creators from full-back, but Koeman and van Dijk could probably have done something similar from centre-half if they played together.

Indeed, both Dutch defenders are incredible ball players, while they’re both also handy at taking set-pieces.

Aside from a noticeable size difference, there are quite a few similarities between Koeman and van Dijk, so it’s not all that surprising to hear the Liverpool star naming the ex-Barca boss as his dream partner.
