Speaking to Liverpool’s official club website, Virgil van Dijk has been discussing how he was received by Rangers supporters at Anfield this week.
Liverpool faced the Scottish giants in a Champions League clash, and as with any Rangers game, the fans were one of the main talking points.
The travelling supporters were in good voice on Merseyside this week as they flocked to Anfield in their droves, and during the game they made it clear that they weren’t too fond of van Dijk due to his previous affiliations with Celtic.
However, despite getting a hostile reception on Tuesday, van Dijk says he was unfazed by the booing.

Van Dijk on Rangers fans
The former Celtic player admitted that the booing didn’t affect him.
“The last time I got booed was when I played England in Portugal in the Nations League semi-final and we won, so hopefully if that’s the case and we win then I will have it! But I don’t get affected by it, I try to play my best game and in order to do that the focus should be 100 per cent there. We know it’s going to be very tough over there with the fans so we have to be ready, but first we’ve got another big challenge coming up in the capital,” Van Dijk said.
That’s why he’s the best
This sort of attitude is why Virgil van Dijk is one of the best centre-backs of his generation.
The Dutchman doesn’t let anything affect him. Most other players would crumble under the pressure of being booed and jeered by thousands of Rangers supporters – especially if they used to play for Celtic, but this was just another day for van Dijk.
The centre-back has nerves of steel and the fact that he is so laser-focused on the task at hand at all times makes him one of the best defenders in the world.
