Liverpool central defender Virgil van Dijk has praised Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on Premier League Productions.
Van Dijk came up against Aubameyang at Anfield last night.
Liverpool won the Premier League game 4-0.
The Netherlands international centre-back has praised the Arsenal striker.
And he is pleased that he and his Liverpool teammates were able to keep the 32-year-old quiet.
Van Dijk said about Aubameyang: “He is rapid, so if they go direct, you have to be aware of the space in behind.”
The defender added: “He had maybe one chance, but he didn’t score. So all good.”
How did Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang play?
Aubameyang had a disappointing game and could not really trouble the Liverpool defence.
Liverpool dominated proceedings in the second half anyway.
Which meant that Aubameyang did not get chances or even half-chances.
The Arsenal midfield could not cope with that of Liverpool and struggled to create much.
Aubameyang had one shot which was on target and gave one key pass.
The Arsenal no. 11 touched the ball only 22 times.
Liverpool are one of the best teams in the world.
And Arsenal have a very young team.
So, losing to the Reds at Anfield was a given really.
What is very encouraging to see is that Van Dijk is pleased that Aubameyang did not have a good game.
It show just how highly the striker is rated by rival players.
