Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk is set to be out for over than a month after sustaining a hamstring injury.
As Klopp and Co. were losing 2-0 at Brentford, many were surprised to see Van Dijk being taken off at half-time.
Some speculated that the Liverpool boss decided to substitute the £240,000-a-week, after what was a poor showing from him against Thomas Frank’s men.
While others suspected that Virgil van Dijk was simply injured and Jurgen Klopp decided to substitute him as a precautionary measure.
As Liverpool succumbed to an eventual 3-1 defeat against Brentford, it was revealed that Van Dijk was indeed suffering from an injury.
This development is undoubtedly a huge blow for the Merseyside-based club, who have been a shambles at the back all season.
Their defensive woes were all on display against Brentford, as Liverpool were lucky that 2 goals they conceded from corners were disallowed.
In case Yoane Wissa was onside in an extremely packed box, he would have walked away with a hat-trick on the night.
And now, Klopp has said that Van Dijk will be out of the fray for a significant period of time.
Jurgen Klopp says Virgil van Dijk will be out for more than a month due to hamstring injury

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has said in his latest press-conference that Virgil van Dijk will be forced out of action in excess of a month, due to a serious hamstring injury.
“Virg [van Dijk] is a surprise for us. It was obviously a big blow, he didn’t feel a lot. I took him off actually [against Brentford.”
“No risk, it [injury] was not clear, maybe he could have tried. In the end, the diagnosis was pretty harsh, we’re talking about weeks, more than a month.”
“I hope it goes quick and we will have to see.”
“For me, he is not available and that’s how it is. He has never had an issue with muscles, never mentioned anything before and it just now happened.”
“It’s how it is. Nothing different. One sprint too much in that moment”, Klopp said, as per Liverpool Echo.
Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool fans will hope that Virgil van Dijk returns to full fitness as soon as possible.
