The Liverpool captain weighs in on United’s transfer business before Sunday’s clash at Anfield.

As anticipation builds for the North West derby, Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk has shared his thoughts on Manchester United’s summer signings. The Dutch defender spoke to Sky Sports about how United’s new recruits could pose a real threat this weekend.

Manchester United strengthened their squad with five additions, including Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp on deadline day. They also secured Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo, Diego Leon, and Matheus Cunha, signaling a clear intent to rebuild under Ruben Amorim.

Van Dijk warns Liverpool to stay alert

Van Dijk acknowledged the quality within United’s new lineup, saying they are capable of hurting any opponent.

“They can hurt any team, and that’s what they have been doing at times throughout the season,” he told Sky Sports.

The Liverpool captain stressed the need for focus and adaptability, adding that the team must be ready for “any scenario” — from set pieces to counterattacks — in what he described as a unique and unpredictable rivalry.

Amorim targets his first win at Anfield

For Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim, this weekend represents a chance to achieve a milestone victory. He’s yet to win at Anfield and will rely on his new signings to deliver standout performances.

United’s 2-2 draw at Liverpool last season remains one of Amorim’s most praised displays, despite the missed opportunity for three points. This time, with Liverpool coming off three straight defeats in all competitions, the visitors will feel there’s no better moment to strike.
