The Hoops actually broke their own 100-year-old British record by going 63 domestic matches without losing.
The Scottish Premiership is not a glamorous domestic league, and Celtic are head and shoulders above the other teams.
While many fans of the Premier League will dismiss Brendan Rodgers’s side’s achievement, Van Dijk believes that it is amazing.
“It’s amazing,” Van Dijk told STV. “I don’t think people really understand how big an achievement it is. They should get all the credit for it because it’s not something that happens a lot.
“I’m very happy for the club and the fans and also for the players, of course. It doesn’t matter if it’s Scotland [or anywhere else], it’s a big achievement.”
The 26-year-old Netherlands international centre-back is a former Celtic player, and he would know that it is not easy to win matches in the Scottish Premiership.
True, it is not as competitive as some other domestic football leagues, but the players still have to be at their best.
Van Dijk joined Celtic from Groningen in 2013 and played for the Hoops until 2015 before moving to Premier League side Southampton for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £13 million.
