Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has hailed Rangers midfielder Steven Davis as a ‘top player’ to Sky Sports.
Rangers man Davis is set to become Northern Ireland’s most capped player later this evening.
And Van Dijk, who used to play with the midfielder at Southampton, was full of praise for the Ibrox based veteran.
“Davo has been exceptional as a pro, but outside the pitch as well he has been a great example to a lot of young Northern Ireland players out there,” the former Celtic man said.
“I had the pleasure to play with him at Southampton and I really enjoyed it. A great guy and a top player and well deserved obviously.”
Davis, despite being 35 now, has still played an important role for Rangers this side and has featured in almost every game they have played so far this season.

Steven Gerrard has started Davis five times already this term in the league, with Rangers making a fairly bright start to the campaign.
Gerrard also led the tributes to his player in Sky’s article, with the Rangers boss only having positive words to say.
“Special,” the Light Blues boss said.
“He’s a student of the game, you can see how he takes on information. Managers trust him and he’s born with a special talent. I didn’t really have good memories with him because he was always a pest to play against, he was a very fit individual who would never go away no matter what the score line was.”
Northern Ireland’s match this evening comes against Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Davis will be determined to help his side to the three points, as he looks to help them qualify for Euro 2020.
