Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk is wary of the challenge the Reds face against Tottenham this weekend.

The last meeting between the two teams was a 2-1 victory for Liverpool.

Van Dijk has told the club’s official website that Tottenham pushed Liverpool hard and they found it tough.

He hopes Liverpool’s preparation will help them be ready for Tottenham shifting their tactics.

He said: “We saw when we played them at home that the second half we were struggling a little bit [as] they changed because they were struggling in the first half.

“So we are going to prepare very well and we started here in [Marbella] and we will have another full week to prepare. We will be prepared for any situation that is going to come across. Then it’s all about us, what we do.”

Van Dijk was integral to Liverpool’s victory against Tottenham, defending excellently when Spurs were through two against one, blocking a potential pass to Heung Min Son and forcing Moussa Sissoko to shoot, wastefully.

Tottenham caused problems for both Manchester City and Ajax by changing their system in their Champions League clashes, and this versatility in approach means Liverpool must be prepared.

Liverpool’s players appear to recognise that their league victories over Spurs count for nothing in this winner takes all decider.
