Virat Kohli isn’t arrogant, says India star Ajinkya Rahane, but his focus is misconstrued by others.
Ajinkya Rahane has stepped forward to challenge the persistent claims of arrogance levelled at Virat Kohli, offering a perspective from someone who has seen the former India captain’s routines up close.
A teammate of Kohli’s during the latter’s time as Indian captain, Rahane explained that Kohli’s intense focus before matches is a sign of discipline and preparation, not ego.

Ajinkya Rahane explains the real meaning behind Virat Kohli’s focus
Speaking to Cricbuzz, Ajinkya Rahane described how Kohli’s pre-match habits — including isolating himself and listening to music — are part of a process that helps him get into the right mental space.
Rahane also praised Kohli’s work ethic, saying it’s his constant drive to improve that sets him apart from others.
“He’ll hardly talk with people, even with the teammates. That’s what actually gets him into the zone. People outside think Virat is arrogant, but he is not. He gets into the zone.”
“His attitude is amazing. His work ethics are amazing. He always wants to change, improve, and contribute for the team,” Rahane said.
Virat Kohli has shown commitment and laser focus across his career
Virat Kohli’s career has been defined by the level of effort, commitment, and focus he has brought to every team and every format of the game.
Kohli’s focus has been a talking point among fans and critics for years, but teammates have often described it as a key part of his success.
Now playing only limited-overs cricket, Kohli recently became the second-highest run-scorer in international history, with 28,068 runs, following a 93-run innings against New Zealand.
Rahane’s comments echo what many within the Indian setup have said before: Kohli’s intensity is often misread, but it’s that same approach that has helped him build one of the most impressive careers in modern cricket.
