Clive Allen has said on talkSPORT (7:13am, August 15, 2022) that Tottenham Hotspur central defender Cristian Romero should have been penalised for pulling Chelsea left-back Marc Cucurella’s hair in the final minutes of the London derby at Stamford Bridge in London on Sunday.

Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea played out a 2-2 draw with Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur at home in the Premier League.

It was a very feisty and controversial affair.

Tottenham’s first goal was controversial, and so was their equaliser late in the game.

Moments before Harry Kane scored from a late corner, Tottenham centre-back Romero pulled Cucurella’s hair and brought him to the ground.

Referee Anthony Taylor appeared to have a clear view of the incident, but no punishment was given to Romero.

Tottenham scored just moments later.

Former Tottenham forward Clive Allen believes that Romero was fortunate to get away with the “violent conduct”.

Clive Allen on Romero – Marc Cucurella incident in Chelsea v Tottenham

Allen said on talkSPORT (7:13am, August 15, 2022): “I was a little surprised, I have to say, that VAR looked at that and they hadn’t seen it as violent conduct.

“You can see he pulls his hair, pulls Cucurella to the ground. I think he was a little bit fortunate to get away with that, I have got to be honest.”

Chelsea fans will not be happy with decisions that went against them and will feel that they deserved to win the London derby against Tottenham Hotspur.

The Blues were the better team, but you have to admit that Tottenham were very good in the second half and did not give up at all.

Chelsea and Tottenham are two very strong teams, and Sunday’s derby game showed that.
