Rangers suffered a late defeat to Old Firm rivals Celtic in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday.

Alfredo Morelos of Rangers is red carded during the Ladbrokes Premier League match between Celtic and Rangers at Celtic Park on March 31, 2019 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Vinnie Jones has stated in a stern fashion that Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos should either ‘wise up’ or ‘man up’ for his actions during his side’s Old Firm 2-1 defeat to Celtic on Sunday.

The 22-year-old was sent off in the first half at Parkhead after he got involved in an off-the-ball incident with Scott Brown by elbowing the opposing captain.

It isn’t the first time this season that Morelos has been given his marching orders because he has seen red on six occasions during this campaign which have proven to be very costly to the team.

Former Leeds United and Wimbledon midfielder Jones, who was known for his hard-hitting style, made it pretty clear what Morelos should be doing in order to combat those who try to test his patience.

“Brown has tripped him from behind, he’s wound him up and the Rangers lad has lashed out at him,” Jones told talkSPORT. “He’s either got to wise up, man up and deal with it in a tackle or something else like that, or he’s going to be down the road. I would have waited, said ‘alright son’, set one up and then smashed him later on.”

At the time of Morelos’ sending off, Celtic were leading the game 1-0 and the away team were yet to test the opposition goalkeeper and get into the game.

But after the break, Steven Gerrard’s side grew into the match and started producing the goods with Ryan Kent firing home the equaliser, but that was cancelled out by James Forrest’s winner three minutes from time.

More off-the-ball incidents did occur in the second half, but there is no doubt that Rangers fans will be annoyed that Morelos didn’t keep his cool because if he stayed on the pitch then it could have been a different story.

Over the course of the season, the highly-rated youngster has played 27 Premiership games for his club, scoring 17 goals and supplying his teammates with eight assists [transfermarkt].
