Vinnie Jones has played down Leeds United’s chances of gaining promotion from the Championship when speaking to Leeds United Supporters’ Trust’s November newsletter.

Leeds currently sit second in the Championship table as Marcelo Bielsa continues to push the Whites towards a return to the Premier League – almost 15 years since the club were last relegated from the top flight.

Argentine boss Bielsa’s 4-1-4-1 style has the Whites churning out result after result, winning their last two matches against Bristol City and Reading with clean sheets earned in both matches.

Former Leeds hardman Jones was asked if he thinks Leeds will get promotion, and he responded by detailing how difficult a league the Championship is – claiming it is harder to gain promotion in the second tier, than win the Premier League.

“Can only hope,” Jones said. “I think it’s a really hard hard league to get out of and I don’t even think winning the Premier League is as hard has winning the Championship. There’s too many teams fighting against you.

“The Premier League, what there’s two or three real contenders and in the Championship, you look down the table and think ‘Wow!’ Look at Sheff United, they lost the other day and I didn’t see that coming.

“You see results and it’s a real league. Fifteen teams really competing up to tenth or twelfth place there isn’t that many points between them. Look at the Premiership, the first three teams have probably got more points than the rest.”
