Burnley boss Vincent Kompany could raid former club Manchester City this summer with Sergio Gomez wanted.

Sergio Gomez could leave Manchester City after just a year at the club with Burnley now interested in signing him.

That is according to a report from The Sun, who claim that Burnley are eyeing a move for Gomez this summer.

The Clarets have clinched promotion to the Premier League but may be in the market for a left back.

Ian Maatsen spent this season on loan at Burnley but is now back with Chelsea an a permanent deal could be tricky.

That means Kompany is now turning to his former club with Gomez on the Burnley wish list this summer.

The 22-year-old only joined City last summer, leaving Belgian club Anderlecht for an £11million switch to the Etihad Stadium.

A playmaker in his Barcelona days, Gomez has become a left back but first-team minutes at City have been difficult to come by.

Gomez managed just two Premier League starts this season and a total of 341 league minutes.

City will allegedly sell if they can recoup their outlay on Gomez with Burnley having a great chance at a permanent deal.

Sergio Gomez may love Vincent Kompany reunion

This move wouldn’t just be Kompany raiding former club City for a new signing.

Kompany and Gomez have actually worked together before, joining forces at Anderlecht.

Gomez played 47 times under Kompany in Belgium, racking up a hugely impressive record of seven goals and 15 assists.

There is no doubting that the best football of Gomez’s career has come under Kompany.

Upon joining City, Gomez admitted that Kompany was a ‘role model’ to him and credited him with the decision to switch from playing in attacking midfield to featuring at left back.

If Kompany can promise Gomez first-team football at Burnley, we may well see them reunite at Turf Moor.
