Manchester City host Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday night.
Manchester City defender Vincent Kompany has told the Daily Mail that he thinks Tottenham Hotspur have a wealth of options – despite Harry Kane’s injury.
Both City and Spurs won in the Premier League over the weekend, beating Crystal Palace and Huddersfield Town respectively.
Now, the attention turns back to the Champions League, with the two sides meeting at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night, after Spurs claimed a 1-0 win over City last week.
Spurs will be eyeing a shock place in the semi-finals as they take a 1-0 lead to the Etihad, especially as they didn’t give up an away goal at their new stadium.
Many still have City as the favourites to go through given their strong home record under Pep Guardiola, but Spurs will be hoping to spring a shock before returning to face City in the Premier League this weekend.
Spurs’ hopes of progressing were dealt a blow last week, as star striker Kane suffered yet another ankle injury, ruling him out for the rest of the season after a first-leg clash with Fabian Delph.
Much will now rest on Son Heung-min, Lucas Moura and Fernando Llorente to fill the void, and City captain Kompany has hailed the squad at Mauricio Pochettino’s disposal.
Kompany thinks Spurs have a ‘vast squad’ and ‘a wealth of talent’, meaning even if you take a player out, one of great quality will come in – though Spurs fans may feel that City’s depth is even better.
“’When you play Tottenham – or any top six team – they have such a vast squad, such a wealth of talent that if you take one player out, you might lose something but the new player will bring something entirely different to the table,” said Kompany. “None of us will focus on that. We are all pretty clear what we need to do,” he added.
