Speaking on Rio Ferdinand’s YouTube channel, Vincent Kompany has named former Liverpool ace Luis Suarez as the toughest opponent he’s ever come up against.
Kompany and Suarez had some incredible battles in the Premier League during Suarez’s time at Liverpool.
Sadly, the Uruguayan was on the losing side of a title race against Kompany back in 2014, but perhaps he can take some solace in the fact that Kompany believes he’s the toughest player he ever came up against.

Kompany was discussing his Premier League career with Ferdinand.
“Just on strikers, who is the toughest opponent you played against?” Rio Ferdinand asked.
“I would say Luis Suarez. Because he’s unconventional in everything he does, it’s a game within the game. He’ll fall on the floor and fake an injury, by the time you’re complaining to the ref, he’s running in behind. He’s nicking the ball, playing it against your knees and all this. If a ball goes in behind, when you’re looking left he’s jumping right, when you look left he’s jumping right. I had my best and the worst games against him,” Kompany said.
All-time great
When all is said and done in Suarez’s career, he will surely go down as an all-time great.
The Uruguayan has made his mark in English, Dutch and Spanish football, while he’s also been a big-game player on the international stage.
Suarez was a one of a kind striker who combined pace, intelligence and skill so masterfully, and the fact that a defender as good as Kompany couldn’t deal with him tells you all you need to know about his talents.
