Burnley manager and Manchester City legend Vincent Kompany has suggested on BBC One (8:09pm, November 22, 2022) that he does not want to sign Cristiano Ronaldo following his departure from Manchester United.

Manchester United have announced today that they have parted company with Ronaldo.

This follows an explosive interview that the Portugal international forward gave to TV presenter Piers Morgan on TalkTV.

In the interview, Ronaldo criticised the United owners and the infrastructure at the Premier League club.

The 37-year-old also hammered United manager Erik ten Hag and said that he does not respect him.

After all this, it was only going to end one way.

And today, United released a statement saying that Ronaldo has gone from the club.

For good.

The former Real Madrid and Juventus forward is part of the Portugal squad at the 2022 World Cup finals in Qatar at the moment.

BBC presenter and former Tottenham Hotspur striker Gary Lineker asked Burnley boss Kompany this evening if he will sign Ronaldo as a free agent for the Clarets.

Kompany is a former Manchester City defender and is a pundit for the World Cup game between France and Australia in Qatar for BBC Sport.

And he has suggested that he will not sign Ronaldo for Burnley, who are three points clear of second-placed Sheffield United at the top of the Championship table at the moment.

While laughing, Kompany said when asked if he would take Ronaldo at Burnley: “We need players who can run, you know.”
