Tottenham Hotspur signing Vincent Janssen has struggled to make an impact at the club so far, failing to rise to the expectation upon him in Harry Kane’s absence of injury.

He has only three goals so far, all from the penalty spot, and looks likely for an extended spell on the bench now last season’s Golden Boot winner has returned.

He was not the only striker Spurs were linked with signing this summer, with Antonio Sanabria tipped to join Janssen at Spurs in a double move.

The Mirror reported Tottenham were in talks with Roma over signing the Paraguayan international after he netted 11 La Liga goals on loan for Sporting Gijon.

Faced with the option of becoming a third choice striker at Spurs behind Kane and Janssen, Sanabria chose to sign with Gus Poyet’s Real Betis instead and return to Spain.

But while Janssen has not worked out for Tottenham, their business could have been worse, judging by Sanabria’s form for Betis this season.

So far the 20-year-old has started five games for the club, and is yet to score a single goal, despite averaging more than two shots per game.

At Tottenham he would have struggled for regular game time, and it is a leap of faith to say he could have done better than Janssen, even despite the Dutchman’s uninspiring efforts.

Tottenham could have done with doubling down and signing an extra striker in case Janssen did not hit the ground running, but Sanabria does not look like he was the answer either.
