The £17 million man scored from the spot as Spurs thrashed Gillingham in the EFL Cup.
Vincent Janssen has admitted his delight at opening his account for Tottenham Hotspur and thanked the club’s fans for their support whilst speaking to the club’s official website.
Janssen scored from the penalty spot to extend Spurs’ lead over League One Gillingham at White Hart Lane as the North London side ultimately ran out 5-0 winners on Wednesday night.
That was the 22-year-old’s seventh appearance since making his summer move from AZ Alkmaar but was only his second start in all competitions.
Janssen knows he will have to compete with Harry Kane for Mauricio Pochettino’s main striker spot, but with Spurs progressing in the EFL Cup whilst also juggling Premier League and Champions League ambitions he is still likely to get numerous more opportunities to shine.
He was delighted to get the ball rolling with his goal on Wednesday, and thanked the club’s supporters for the appreciation and faith they have shown him so far in his Spurs career.
Janssen told the club’s official website: “It’s always nice to score your first goal for this amazing Club, I’m happy I managed to do that and it felt very, very good.
“Everyone played well, we controlled it from the beginning until the end, scored five goals and had chances to score more but the most important thing is that we played well and won.
“I could feel the support from the fans and I have to thank them, they were very good for me, they were amazing.”
Janssen will be hoping that that goal opens the floodgates for him this season as he looks to become a goalscoring success in England.
With just one Premier League start to his name so far, he will be hoping to play a bigger role on Saturday as his side travel to Middlesbrough.
