Tottenham Hotspur striker Vincent Janssen has scored just once in the Premier League so far this season.
Tottenham Hotspur’s Vincent Janssen has set a 12 month timeline for his White Hart Lane career to be a success, but his deadline is surely too ambitious.
Janssen arrived at Spurs from AZ Alkmaar last summer, but he has failed to make the impact desired at the North London club.
The Dutch international has scored just one Premier League goal, and only made five starts in the league for Spurs.
The bulk of Janssen’s goals have all come from the penalty spot, with the 22-year-old failing to provide the cover required for Harry Kane.
Janssen admits he has found things difficult at Spurs, and was quoted by the Mirror as suggesting that he would give it a year before writing off his Spurs career.
“I have given myself 12 months to succeed in the Premier League with Tottenham and those 12 months are not over yet,” the Dutchman said.
Janssen’s lack of patience may prove to be his undoing, given that he is already nearly eight months into his Spurs career.
For Janssen to turn his time at Tottenham around in four months is surely far too ambitious – if he really wants to be a success.
It is very hard to see Janssen becoming a prominent member of Mauricio Pochettino’s first-team over the remainder of this season, as he seems to have fallen completely out of favour.
However, if Janssen really wants to battle and win his place back at Spurs, he should target giving himself at least another campaign to impress.
With a pre-season behind him, and a year’s understanding the English game, Janssen may be better placed to impress next term.
However, as it stands, Janssen is in danger of putting an overly ambitious deadline on himself to force his way back into Tottenham’s team, and he is surely doomed to failure.
