Vincent Janssen got onto the scoresheet as Tottenham Hotspur booked their place in the semi-final of the FA Cup.
Tottenham’s Vincent Janssen (R) celebrates scoring their fifth goal with team mates
Tottenham Hotspur striker Vincent Janssen has taken to the club’s official website to thank the supporters after his goal in the side’s FA Cup win over Millwall received a brilliant reception from the White Hart Lane crowd.
Janssen had scored five times for Spurs going into the tie with the League One side, but was still awaiting his first from open play since making the £17 million switch in the summer (via BBC Sport).
However, he ended the wait with a smart finish on Sunday to make the score 5-0 to Tottenham in a game that they would ultimately win 6-0.
What was arguably most notable about the goal – and somewhat overshadowed just how good a finish it was – was the reaction of his teammates and the fans. And after the game, he expressed his gratitude to those supporting him.

“That was fantastic,” he told the club’s official website when asked about the reaction.
“It’s nice to see they were so happy for me. I’ve worked hard for that moment and it was nice to see the boys happy for me as well. If you are a footballer that’s what you want to hear and thanks to the fans, it was amazing. It’s fantastic how they support me and I really like that, I really appreciate it. It’s amazing to play and hear your name being sung.”
After an extremely difficult season, Janssen will be hoping that the goal acts as a springboard that inspires him to bag several more before the end of the campaign.

With Harry Kane limping off early on against the Lions, it would not be unreasonable to suggest that if he is sidelined, Mauricio Pochettino may turn to the Dutchman to fill in in the hope that his goal has given him a much-needed confidence boost.
And while Kane being injured would be a blow to Tottenham, it may prove to be the opening that Janssen has needed.
